There are different types of foaming agents available in the market. One of them is the protein foam agent. It is an excellent product for manufacturing light weighted concrete.
The protein based foaming agent is compatible with fresh water. Moreover, it is not toxic. In addition, it helps reduce surface tension of the solution, which in turn increases compressive strength of the concrete.
PB-Lux is a high-performance foaming concentrate. It is suitable for foam concretes with a density of 200 to 1200 kg/m3. This foam concentrate has excellent performance and high profitability. However, its consumption depends on the technology and method used in production. For a lightweight foam concrete with a density of 1000 kg/m3, a mixture with 25% of foaming agent by mass produces 10 liters of foam.
During a study, the effect of the water-cement ratio on the compressive strength of the foamed concrete was investigated. Results showed that higher densities were achieved when the w/c ratio was 0.5, while low densities were achieved with 0.4 w/c.
The study also reported that foaming agents can be safely and effectively used. However, the permeability of the concrete may decrease with the use of amine/esters.
Besides being used in the production of foamed concrete, the protein foam agent can also be used in making bricks. As a result, it is considered as an eco-friendly product. Another advantage of the protein based foaming agent is that it remains stable with high carbon quality fly ashes.
