Concrete is the traditional material used to set fence posts. It’s sturdy and has the strength to last many years. However, it’s also heavy and a lot of work to make.
You can get lightweight concrete fence posts that are more lightweight and less heavy than conventional concrete. They also provide greater resistance against moisture, rot, and mould than wood.
Lightweight concrete slotted corner fence posts are manufactured from high strength concrete and reinforced to give ultimate durability and longevity. They are easy to install and can be paired with timber fence panels to form an attractive fence solution.
In most cases, I prefer to use concrete to set my fence posts. But there are some situations where mortar is a better choice.
Mortar may not be as strong as concrete but it’s lighter and easier to change should you need to. It’s also cheaper to use if you’re only setting one post.
Expanding foam is another popular alternative to concrete for setting posts. It’s faster than concrete, sets in a few minutes, and isn’t dependent on the temperature of your soil. It’s also a good solution if you have young children and dogs that like to play near the fence.
Expanding foam is also stronger than concrete, but isn’t as rigid or dense. That means it can’t support fence post repair devices, such as brackets or spikes.
