quick setting concrete chemicals are a type of admixture that can speed up the set time for cement. They include a variety of accelerating, retarding and water-reducing admixtures.
Accelerating Admixtures : These admixtures accelerate the hydration of the cement, which leads to early strength development and reduced setting times in cooler temperatures. Most accelerated admixtures are calcium chloride based.
Non-Chloride containing Set Accelerators are used where the corrosive effects of calcium chloride on embedded steel must be avoided. They can be ASTM C 494 Type A and C water-reducers, or as ASTM C494 Type F combination admixtures that combine accelerators with superplasticizers (high range water reducers).
Retarding Admixtures: These admixtures keep concrete workable during placement and delay the initial set. They also help to slow down the accelerated rate of hardening that results from high temperature curing.
Most retarders are water-reducing admixtures that reduce the amount of water required to make concrete. Retarding admixtures may also entrain air in the concrete to help control the rate of hardening.
Typical Retarding Admixtures are gypsum and Aluminium sulfate. These admixtures can be added to the dry mix or to the wet concrete in the mixing drum.
Fast – Concrete Pharmacy Additive for Cold Weather Conditions
This product is used to quickly increase the setting time of Rapid Set cement products when they are exposed to extreme cold weather. It is a supplemental additive for use with Rapid Set concrete mixes, mortar and grout.
